makes great toast, english muffins, and bagels. beautiful shape; clean and sleek; easy to work w/ digital guide and pop-up feature.
I don't know if that matters in any way but i just thought it was cool. Digital display is a nice feature and the cancel button lights up. Very good product. Toasts like a freight train.
In any case - it worked out great for us. Could it be that the people complaining of toast being burned at a setting of 5 could have been toasting delicate white bread. Despite the dire warnings of toast apocalypse, we decided that based on numerous good reviews, it was worth a shot. The toaster works great - and even on a setting of 5, the whole grain artisan bread came out perfectly toasted - not even with burned edges.
Level 1 doesn't toast enough. I am surprised that there aren't more negative reviews. I have had this toaster for over a year and if I could find my receipt I would return it to Williams-Sonoma. At level 2 I must rotate my toast or one end is black and the other end is not toasted at all. Perhaps I have a defective model, or Breville has corrected the problem. I bought this toaster based on its good looks and sales associate recommendation. The toast always burns at level 3 and I wouldn't dare anything higher.
It does not throw the toast out. I normally dont do reviews, but had to given some of the negatives (that almost convinced me to buy the smaller version). Its great. It should lift the toast higher imo. I was worried about buying this toaster due to the fierce negative reviews, but decided to go with the majority and buy it.
Anyhow, its great, dont let the negatives deter you. Extra toasted on 5, lightly toasted on 3. and i am extra glad i didn't get the smaller one cuz this is perfect for larger slices. It has either been improved or those products were defective. It does not burn toast on anything above 3. But since nothing is perfect, i will point out my one, tiny gripe.
I was expecting some thermo-nuclear toaster that would incinerate my toast, scorch my hand, kill small children and be an overall threat to my neighborhood. I heat arepas on 9 and not so much as a black mark. When the toast is done, even with the lifter, it is a little hard to get out without burning your fingers.and this is only a problem on smaller breads and english muffins for example. DONT BELIEVE THE SLAMS. It is really the best toaster I have ever purchased. I can see the display from 10 feet away at various angles.
First of all, we use all settings. Perhaps the company has addressed some of the negatives or perhaps some people got defective ones, but I found all the negatives to not apply at all.
